Aus development squad 5 India 3

For Indian coach Harendra Singh losing to the Australian development side must sure come as a setback. But for the former Indian hockey consultant and now Kookaburras coach Ric Charlesworth there was plenty to cheer about the future of Australian men’s hockey when they defeated the Indian senior squad in Brisbane.

India did try to comeback into the match delayed on several occasions due to heavy rain but the Australian development squad were always in front through the match.

Striker Jason Wilson commenced Australia’s scoring tally at the 10 minute mark, however India quickly struck back, converting a penalty stroke at the 16 minute mark.

Two quick penalty corner goals to Nick Budgeon and Joel Carrol respectively established a much deserved half time lead.

Although India were the first to score after half time, Australia continued to produce in front of goal, scoring a total of five goals to secure the victory.

Goals:

(Aus) Wilson 10m FG, (Ind) A Singh 16m PS, (Aus) Budgeon 22m PC, (Aus) Carrol 27m PC, (Ind) Vokkaliga 37m PC, (Aus) De Young 61m FG, (Ind) Khandekar 64m FG, (Aus) Paterson 66m FG

Re: Aus development squad beat India 5-3

Don't worry my dear boys. Though played well you have lost the match against a much strong Australian side. It may be a happy occasion for Charlesworth but beating the national team should be our aim and answer to his comments about our hockey team. If we beat the australian national team convincingly he may be ashamed for his comments. We are here my dear hockey. There are lakhs and lakhs of hockey lovers here keenly watching your performance. By beating them give us a chance to be happy.
