India 1 GB 3
Great Britain showed enough class and maturity to outwit India 3-1 in the opening game of the Tri-Nations hockey tournament in Albericia, Spain. India, looking for some momentum to carry into the Olympics, didn’t find any as defensive lapses gave the British enough space to come back into the match and clinch a 3-1 victory.
India began aggressively on the blue turf and took the lead in the 3rd minute through Shivendra Singh. But the equalizer came from James Tindall off a penalty-corner in the 17th.
After a well-fought first half, GB came back with more energy, earned a penalty stroke which was converted by Ashley Jackson in the 45th minute. GB was strong in the midfield and carried over that domination through another goal by Harry Martin in the 62nd minute.
India have one more game against Spain and Indian coach Michael Nobbs would want a win to lift India’s morale before they open their London Olympics campaign.
